DOJ Escalates Battle: Feds Accuse California of Blocking Voter Roll Audit Amid Election Integrity Debate

Essayli further elaborated on the DOJ’s broader apprehensions, writing in his X post, “We also have serious concerns about how California maintains its voter rolls.” He specifically called out California Democrats for impeding the federal audit, highlighting “open questions about whether the state is promptly removing deceased voters, people who have moved, and individuals convicted of disqualifying felonies.” These are common Republican concerns about voter list accuracy.

Adding to the list of concerns, Essayli pointed to California’s voter verification rules. He noted that certain first-time voters who do not provide a Social Security number or driver’s license during registration can verify their identity using documents such as gym membership cards, employer IDs, credit or debit cards, prescription labels, or insurance cards – a policy his office believes warrants significant scrutiny for potential vulnerabilities.
