Rainn Wilson Slams ‘Hypocrisy’ Driving US Divisions, Says ‘The Office’ Unmakeable Today Due to Cancel Culture

Rainn Wilson, the actor famous for his role as Dwight Schrute on the beloved sitcom “The Office,” has spoken out about the deepening political divisions in America, attributing them to “partisan hypocrisy” on both sides of the aisle. He also argues that modern “cancel culture” has stifled the kind of comedy that made “The Office” so popular, making it impossible for such a show to be created or accepted today.

Wilson explained to Fox News Digital that the current climate, fueled by growing political polarization, has severely damaged the environment for shows like “The Office” to thrive. “I do feel like you couldn’t make The Office today,” Wilson stated. “I think that would be too hard to be as politically incorrect as the show was. And I do, I do kind of miss that.” He elaborated that even though characters like his and Steve Carell’s Michael Scott were intentionally written as lacking self-awareness and being foolish, the humor derived from them would likely not be considered socially acceptable in today’s society. “We milked that for a lot of great, really inappropriate stuff,” Wilson recalled. “But even with the fact that painting that character as just an idiot, I don’t think you could get away with it today.”
